Philipsburg Mountaineer Football History

1890 was the first season that Philipsburg High School fielded a football squad.  That year the team lost to Bellefonte and finished the season at 0-1-0.  Philipsburg did not field another team until 1893 and played consecutive seasons through 1899.  It was in 1899 that the Mountaineers beat Bellefonte 11-0 and recorded the first undefeated season in school history.

In 46 seasons, the Mountaineers posted 17 winning teams with undefeated seasons coming in 1899 (1-0), 1925 (8-0-2) and 1953 (7-0-2).  Philipsburg was a charter member of the Bald Eagle Conference in 1937 and the Central Counties Conference in 1944.  The Mountaineers captured one Bald Eagle Conference Championship during the league’s existence between 1937 and 1943.

Prior to the merger with Osceola to create the Philipsburg-Osceola school district, Philipsburg held a 23-8-4 advantage in the all-time series between the neighboring rivals.
